Witness Type: Bribee

Witness Testimony:

  • 14861.

    When besides ? — Oftentimes.

  • 14862.

August is the height of the season, is it not ? — July, August, and September is supposed to be the season here.

  • 14863.

May is not the height of the season ? Sometimes.

  • 14864.

Of course, at election times it is the height of the season ? — July, August, and September is supposed to be the season here.

  • 14865.

(Mr. Holl.) You knew when you went and asked Mr. Spears to take this room, that they really did not want it ? — I knew nothing about it, I am sure. I see Mr. King , who had a private house, had a COMMITTEE ROOM, and I did not see why I should not have one.

  • 14866.

You thought because Mr. King had let his room you might have something out of it; you knew they really did not want it ? — No, I did not. I thought, as they had so many public-houses they might want a private house.

  • 14867.

You thought Mr. Spears ought to do you a turn ? — Yes, certainly ; he is a neighbour.

  • 14868.

And it was to vote for them ? — No, not to vote for them.
