    How much did you give each of the men ? — Some days it ran to 4s. 3d., and some days it ran to 3s. 9d., and sometimes it ran to 5s.

    Do not you know who those men were ? — No ; I could not tell you all their names.

    How did you know how many there were, so as to go to Mr. Rose ? — We was altogether. You could always count them.

    I do not quite understand ; what did you tell the men they should have ? — That they should be paid for their trouble.
