Reported about her husband John William Cavell Elliott who disappeared abruptly to Canada. No satisfactory explanation beyond he sold goods for around £4-5 pounds to pay for his passage to America which cost £6 10s.

    What sum did you get for the things that were sold ? — Something like between 4L. and 5L. I could not say exactly.

    What was the price of his passage to America ? — 6L. 10s., I think, it cost him.

    Where did the other money come from ? — Well, we had a pound or two. We was not so destitute, but he had not money from anybody else.

    Did anybody suggest to him to go to America ? —Not that I am aware of.

    How have you been living since he went away ? — I have been living with my mother. My mother has kept me. I was left almost penniless.
