    You told them before they voted that they were to have something ; and you paid the 3L. to them after they had voted ? — Yes.

    Who were the voters; were they principally boatmen ? — There is different sorts — different trades — not all boatmen.

    Who did you ask them to vote for ? — I did not ask them to vote for anyone ; I saw the way they were inclined to go.
