    What money did you receive in connexion with the election ? — On the morning of the election George Lock came to me. I was in the shop myself, and he gave me a small parcel. I untied it, and I found there were nine sovereigns. I have two other brothers ; one is employed in the business, and the other is a partner of mine. I showed it to him, and also to my brother in the business, who is in poor circumstances, and he said he should like to have it, and we gave it to him.

I said it was undecided, and I really did not like to give him an answer. As young men in business we did not feel independent enough to vote at all.
