Voted for Mr Crompton Roberts because the promised money from the Liberals had not been forthcoming before he voted. While he was voting the money was left at his house with his wife. No 26 was one of the houses on the east side of the promenade that have now been demolished.

How came that about ? — I had been promised the 3L. to vote for Sir Julian. I waited in the best part of the morning, and it was afternoon when I went up to the voting office and voted. I had not had any money until then. When I went back Mr. Allen had left the 3L. with my wife. I had promised him to vote for Sir Julian, but I went up and voted for Mr. Crompton Roberts when I found he did not come. When I had come home he had left 3L. with my wife for my vote.
