    What were you to do with it ? — For election purposes, and that is the list of the names of the persons who had it for voting, and so on (handing same),

    I see nine had 4L— that is, 36L., and there is 10L. for “Norris, W. G.”; is that yourself ? — That is myself for canvassing and other expenses attending it, besides my vote, you understand.

    (Mr. Jeune.) The vote was thrown in ?  — Yes ; that has to come out of that.

    (Mr. Holl.) You had that given for your vote ? — Yes, and I worked as a messenger, and altogether you know.

    It is 10L. ; that is, 4L. for yourself, and your canvassing 6L. ? — It is all there.

    Did you promise these men in this list that you would give them something if they voted ? — I told them they should have the 4L. I put down on the paper.

    Yon mentioned the sum ? — Yes; they would not go for less than that.

    Others did ; some went for 3L ? — I do not know what the others did.

    Did they tell you they would vote or would be satisfied if they got 4L. ? — They promised they would, and I believe they did.

    When did you pay them the 4L. ? — Some had it on Monday evening and some on the morning of the election — most of them.

    All before they voted ? — No, most of it after; them that had it on the Monday of course was before voting.

    You said they had it next morning ? — Yes, next morning ; but I think the principal part was after they voted.

    And they had it for their votes ? — Yes.
