The Report records two witnesses as William Friend (Day 11) and William Benjamin Friend (Day 22), both living in Exchange Street and paid £3 by Thomas Adams. Research shows they are one and the same person, called on two separate days. Confirmation comes from the poll books for the election which show William B Friend living at 2 Exchange Street although when testifying as William B, he didn’t give the number which he had stated in his earlier appearance.
